Bow Wow Blues

When we went to San Diego in January, Nyah met the family Dogs. I'm not trying to be mean, they really are the only dogs in our family. Hussein uncle and Virginia aunty have three otherwise sweet dogs (Coco, Boots and Ginger) but Nyah was not enamored by them! Coco and Boots wanted nothing to do with Nyah and unless there was food under her chair they would stay as far away from her as possible. The youngest of the three, Ginger, loved Nyah (or at least loved to harass her). She would jump up to her when she was eating and hang around for the scraps Nyah would throw on the floor. However the more Ginger hung around the more Nyah cried and the more Nyah cried the more curious Ginger became. The Dogs' playing was also a problem for Nyah because they played rough and barked at eachother and growled and well Nyah joined in by screaming and crying.

So Nyah learned how to say Bow Wow - which now means Dog. While we were in San Diego and around the dogs it made sense for her to constantly say Bow Wow. But it has been over a week and she is still obsessed with the Bow Wow! As soon as she wakes up, she remembers Bow Wow. I don't know if she is traumatized by the encounter but she will not get over it.

We thought that maybe Bow Wow means something else, but as soon as she sees a dog on TV (like Clifford) or in one of her books she starts her Bow Wow. And the look on her face is one of constant worry.

We thought maybe she misses them and we should get her a toy dog. So I took her to the mall to get one of those yap yap dogs that jump... As soon as she saw it she started crying and saying Bow Wow at the same time. Hopefully this will pass and she will learn to like Dogs. But in the mean time we are Bow Wowed Out!
